History of The Sam Adams Back Pack Program During the fall of 2016 Tom Swartz decided that it would be a wonderful idea if we had a program in Cassopolis similar to what was happening with a program in Dowagiac. The goal was to feed hungry kids on weekends. He contacted local people to begin a fund, Churches to provide the volunteers to shop and pack, and the school as to interest and identification of students. The program began small in January of 2017 and has continued since then. There are 7 community Churches and Helping Hands who shop, pack and deliver to the school weekly during the school year. We also supply vouchers for staples at our local Hardings during vacation times; Christmas, Spring Break/Easter, and added Thanksgiving this year. Our objectives include having 2 years of expenditures on hand at any time. We have been packing for 50 (K-6th) students for most of this school year and there are more food insecure in our community.
